The Public Sector Bargaining Council is racing against time to implement pay raises for specialist professional civil servants, under an occupation-specific dispensations programme, before the end of this month.

The Public Sector Bargaining Council is racing against time to implement pay raises for specialist professional civil servants, under an occupation-specific dispensations programme, before the end of this month.

The task required the government to evaluate each public-service position that qualified for the increase. The details are being thrashed out by sectoral bargaining councils. Wage negotiations are expected to begin next month.

A month-long public-service strike in 2007 was settled with a two-year salary agreement. But that agreement runs out this year, so new negotiations must take place. - Getrude Makhafola
