THREE high court judges have slammed a Mpumalanga magistrate for conducting an "unfair trial" that resulted in a Congolese man being sentenced to 100 years in prison.

In 2006 Nelspruit magistrate Annemarie van der Merwe found Claude Djaji guilty on four charges of drug dealing and sentenced him to 25 years in jail on each charge.

Djaji, who could not speak any local language, had no legal representation or a translator.
