Fifa spokesperson Nicolas Maingot said they were grateful to the Bafokeng kingdom who have come on board to assist in this regard.

"We are working with the Kingdom of Bafokeng, local authorities, schools and Fifa commercial partners to reach out to more people.

"It is a joint initiative between Fifa and the LOC (Local Organising Committee).

"Complimentary tickets will not be issued for all the games.

"Some of the games like the one between Brazil and Italy are sold out.

"The tickets sales here in South Africa are very similar to the previous editions of the Confederations Cup.

"However, there are some seats still available and we appeal to the fans to support the Confederations Cup. The current average per game is 33000 people.

"In Germany, the average was 37000 people and 34000 in Korea and Japan.

"It is not our impression that the Confederations Cup match attendance (in South Africa) is poor."

Maingot said they were impressed with the standard of the competition since the tournament got under way on Sunday.

"We have four goals per game, which is very high competition."

Fifa president Sepp Blatter and organising committee chairperson Irvin Khoza have urged the South Africans to embrace the Confederations Cup by attending the games.

Khoza said the empty seats at some of the games were sending out a negative image about South Africa's passion for soccer.

The organising committee spokesperson Rich Mkhondo said they were excited that the tournament was going according to plan.

Regarding the threats by the stewards to embark on a strike, Mkhondo said the matter has been resolved by all the stakeholders.
