Businesswoman Jodi Solomon, a sports therapist and a mother of two, is a boxing manager and is registered with Boxing South Africa.
This dynamic woman guides the promising careers of recently crowned WBO Africa light heavyweight champion, Isaac "Golden Boy" Chilembe.
Solomon is aware of the challenges that lies ahead of her and as someone who has always been quick on her feet, she is optimistic of adding value to Chilembe's life.
"My challenge is to get the best treatment for my boxer and provide whatever else he needs to become the best athlete possible," she said.
Her primary duty is to get fights and sponsors. She was in the corner last Saturday when Chilembe and trainer Colin Nathan won the WBO "B" grade belt against Ugandan David Kitooke in Mpumalanga.
"That was breathtaking," said Solomon, who is the first woman to be involved with a fighter as a manager. She joins trainer Jabulisile Mdluli in this elite group of women.
Mdluli hones fighters' skills in their Hillbrow gym, alongside George Khosi.
Other women who are involved in the fisticuffs sport include Siya Vabaza, Boitumelo Madiba, Sylvia Mokaila, Gabo Sikhipha, Mapaseka Nkoane, Nonelwa Fukuta, Beauty Khaphei and Christina Mudau.
There are also a few referees, while Thandi Gxonono does duty as a timekeeper.
Solomon met Chilembe at Nick Durandt's gym in Norwood, where Chilembe and other champions from Durandt's stable work as personal trainers.
"I became friends with the personal trainers and Isaac is one of them," Solomon said. One day he contacted me for advise regarding a decision he had to make. He asked me to consider being his manager in that conversation."
