The Star reported President Barack Obama as saying that he will create 600000 jobs in three months. To achieve this he will have to create at least 6666 jobs a day.
On the other hand President Jacob Zuma has promised South Africans 500 000 jobs in the next six months.
What is key is that he has committed his presidency to spending everything in the budget and to holding ministers accountable. It's quite refreshing and remarkable that Zuma took this stand.
He has also committed himself to specific deadlines and has put certain systems (ministers in the Presidency) in place to ensure delivery.
The trick is in delivery and execution and, more importantly the breakdown of details, which the speech lacked.
In all honesty one could not expect many details since these will be covered by individual ministers.
What will the opposition do with Zuma's and Obama's promises?
Cope told its constituency that it would be a patriotic opposition. This means the interest of the country comes first . It's as important for Cope to have 500000 jobs created as it for the ANC-led government.
But how will the government create quality jobs when jobs are being shed? We will be waiting patiently to see the government create an average of 2777 quality jobs a day.
While Zuma will hold his ministers accountable, South Africans and patriotic opposition parties will hold the president accountable.
