The 26-year-old from Johannesburg, nicknamed "Cobra" for his football skills as a youth, became the European Tour's first black player from South Africa in more than 30 years in 2008 and now plays on the Asian Tour.
Kamte collected a victory in Thailand at the Asian Tour International in his first event of the year and made his US PGA Tour debut two weeks ago at the Memorial, thanks to a special invitation from tournament host Jack Nicklaus.
After a practice round with Nicklaus at Memorial, where Kamte missed the cut with rounds of 77 and 78. Kamte continued his first visit to the United States by qualifying for the US Open last week in Columbus, Ohio.
Woods had challenged Kamte at Memorial to qualify for the Open with the lure of a practice round if he did and the 14-time major champion made good his promise on Monday before showers wiped out practice for most of the field.
Kamte was aided by the Ernie Els Foundation with travel and equipment expenses and as a result developed into a top talent, winning three times on South Africa's Sunshine Tour and making a place for himself among the golf's elite. - Sapa-AFP.
