Burnt couple found dead in bush on farm

RESIDENTS of Howick in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands are reeling in shock after the discovery of two bodies burnt beyond recognition yesterday morning.

The two bodies , believed to be those of lovers, were found by a young boy walking in the bush on Beverly farm in the Dargle area.

It is not clear how the deceased were killed. A resident of the farm who asked to remain anonymous said they were "surprised" when the boy informed them about the deaths.

"We first went with the boy to the bushes and then contacted the police. The bodies were badly burnt.

"We are not sure whether the two were lovers. But we trust that the police will track down the deceased's next of kin," she said.

Police spokesperson Superintendent Henry Budhram says they believe the two badly burnt victims were aged between 20 and 30.

"Our investigations at the scene established that a young boy was walking through the dense bushes when he stumbled across the bodies.

The police were subsequently informed by the people who found the bodies," he said.

Budhram says they believe the deceased may have been killed at some other place, then dumped in the bushes and set alight.

In a separate incident, the body of an unknown man was discovered by police who were on patrol at the corner of Retief and Jabu Ndlovu streets in Pietermaritzburg.

Budhram says the man was lying on the side of the road with a stab wound in the chest, apparently inflicted with a sharp instrument

He urged anyone who might have noticed any suspicious activity in the area in the past few days to contact Superintendent Musawenkosi Mbatha on 033-239-9351 .
