THE ANC says it will ask ministers to root out public servants who set up companies on the side and then tender for lucrative government contracts.

ANC general secretary Gwede Mantashe said the Auditor-General's report on the 2270 public servants or their wives or relatives who formedcompanies winning R540million in government tenders between 2005 and 2007 had confirmed his suspicions.

"That confirms what we said in the elections - that we are faced with a major challenge of corruption. People who we deployed to the ministries will have to deal directly with this chain of events - be hard on corruption, not explain it away, but defeat it," Mantashe said.
