Most were bussed in by the Gauride park and ride and everything went on smoothly.
'We are going to surprise you South Africans'
An Iraqi supporter was confident that his country would win yesterday.
"We are going to surprise you South Africans," he screamed waving his flag.
"What we have for you today will leave you panting until the end of this tournament."
Clad in blue tracksuits, volunteers were well positioned to help fans.
"I am so proud to be part of history," said volunteer Kgokare More.
"I feel so special to serve my country and am looking forward to an exhilarating match.
'Of course we are going to win the match today'
"And of course, we are going to win."
Security in and around the stadium was tight and no vehicle was allowed to park near the 60000-seater stadium.
Streets around Coca-Cola Park were closed and manned by the SAPS and members of the Johannesburg Metro police.
At the Southgate shopping centre, where one of the park and ride facilities is situated, fans began arriving as early as 8am to be driven to the stadium by the Gauride minibuses.
