Social giant adored by all

MODIEHI Maile, a beautiful, powerful, enthusiastic, intelligent sister has passed away.

MODIEHI Maile, a beautiful, powerful, enthusiastic, intelligent sister has passed away.

Born in Wattville, Ekurhuleni, on October 11 1965, the vibrant Maile was a social giant.

Her enchanting smile and humble character invoked a sense of love in those who met her. Tears rolled down the faces of many members of the Uniting Reformed Church when her death was announced. A dedicated member of the church, Maile was described as a friend, sister, mother and companion to many of the congregants. She attended Lesetja Primary and Etwatwa High schools before joining the nutritional department of the Boksburg-Benoni Hospital. She later became a supervisor at Sunshine Hospital in Actonville. There she helped set up the hospital's canteen.

She later ran a catering company with family and friends. The business focused primarily on church functions. Maile claimed this was a way of ploughing back into her community.

Winnie Seakgoe, a friend and neighbour, said she felt deeply hurt by the loss of her friend.

"She would never hurt a fly. She laughed even when things were bad. This is a sad and painful loss to all of us."

Maile leaves two daughters - Neo and Kopano, her parents, four sisters and a brother. She will be buried at Ekurhuleni East Cemetery in Boksburg tomorrow after a service starting at 9am at the Wattville Uniting Reformed Church.
