The Department of Health says it is ready to deal with any disease outbreak, including swine flu, if the need arise during the Fifa Confederations Cup in the next two weeks.

"We are on high alert following the outbreak and rapid spread of swine flu in Europe," said spokesperson Fidel Hadebe.

"Thousands of people from countries affected by H1N1 flu will be landing on our shores to watch the Confederations Cup. Some have already arrived but we have not received reports of any suspected case. We have measures in place at all ports of entry," Hadebe said.

"We have deployed 61 environmental officers and 32 clinical staff at OR Tambo International Airport," he said.

Deputy Health Minister Molefi Sefularo assured the public that the department was prepared to deal with any health situation.
