Now fire rest of SABC board

REMOVING Khanyi Mkonza as SABC board chairperson should serve as a clear indication that something is being done by the national broadcaster to restore some degree of stability to this important institution.

REMOVING Khanyi Mkonza as SABC board chairperson should serve as a clear indication that something is being done by the national broadcaster to restore some degree of stability to this important institution.

Board members must be commended for their firm action but it was not enough. Now they have to move swiftly to get rid of the remaining three members, who pose a serious threat to the SABC's survival.

More importantly, the board and senior management cannot expect the government to invest R2billion in the corporation while current chief financial officer Robin Nicholson is still employed there.

It is total madness. Nicholson should be held responsible for the SABC's present financial turmoil.

Financially speaking the buck stops with him. One would expect a man who earns approximately R3,3 million a year to be able to manage the finances of this once prestigious organisation with distinction.

Not so. Nicholson has run the SABC's finances into the ground and he clearly has no intention of standing down or taking responsibility for the financial mess.

I would like to use this opportunity to call on Communications Minister Siphiwe Nyanda, President Jacob Zuma and the parliamentary portfolio committee on communications to put pressure on the SABC board and management to get rid of Nicholson before seriously considering pumping any money into the corporation.
