TOP choreographer and television actress Khabonina Qubeka is expanding her artistic horizons to music.

The former Rhythm City and The Lab actress has joined a number of celebrities who are venturing into music. Qubeka, who is taking time off acting, kicks off her music career with a four-track mini-album.

The four songs - Gama Lakho, Thath'uthando, One 2 ThreeandI am not that girl - will be released for radio stations next week.

Qubeka has worked with Nigerian jazz singer Kunle Ayo - now based in Johannesburg - and rapper Zubz. She told Sowetan yesterday that when she went into the studio she wanted to produce an album with an African feel.

"My sound is very different. It is influenced by various styles as someone who has travelled a lot. There is a track in which I have used a Mozambican style called Kizomba. The beats are very vibey," said the former Muvhango actress.

Before she even launches her music career officially, Qubeka is already in demand outside South Africa. Her first performance will be in Botswana in August. Later that month she is scheduled to perform in Durban.

"I have wanted to pursue music since I was young. I was once part of a group called Rap Babes and we performed in various places and at fashion shows."

Qubeka said she would release a full album next year.
