The SACP, whose influence in the tripartite alliance has increased since the last election, intends to persuade the government to act against the board members whom it accuses of messing up the public broadcaster.
The SACP threat comes in the wake of a meeting of more than 100 senior managers on Tuesday night, who aired their displeasure about the board and group executive managers.
One of the managers, who asked not to be named, told Sowetan yesterday that most of the managers wanted "acting chief executive Gab Mampone and the board to step down".
The source said Mampone locked himself in his office yesterday after staff staged a sit-in demanding to be addressed on the SABC's financial status.
But spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said the sit-in was as a result of the failure to convene a planned meeting.
"The meeting on Tuesday was called by the group executive to discuss how to improve the situation at the SABC," Kganyago said.
"The meeting could not reach a decision on how to save the company."
Malesela Maleka, who speaks for the SACP, said board members had contributed to the problems at the SABC and should go.
He said if they didn't heed the call the SACP would approach the government to throw them out.
Parliament's communications committee chairperson Ishmael Vadi said the board's decision to appoint Ashwin Trikamjee as interim chairperson was unlawful.
