Litterbugs should stop mucking up SA

DRIVING down several roads on my way to work I couldn't help but wonder if the Pikitup campaign that took place over the weekend had happened on those streets because they were still so littered.

They had probably been there but volunteers alone are not enough to fight the scourge of littering. It needs to be backed up by education and enforcement.

I for one would be quite happy to embarrass any person I spot dropping a stompie or throwing the cellophane wrappers of their cigarette packets in the street. I would also happily point out someone who tosses their fast-food wrapper or cold drink tin into the stormwater drain.

Most people I know don't gooi their trash on the floor of their homes, so why do they do this in our communal spaces such as streets and shops?

If you don't do it at home, don't do it in public.

Councillor Carol Milner, DA Joburg
