Dad sent for mental check after 3 kids with daughter

A MPUMALANGA man found guilty on nine counts of rape after fathering three children with his daughter has been sent for medical evaluation to check if he is fit to stay in jail.

The 51-year-old man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of her daughter, will know this week whether or not he will do time.

He is originally from Swaziland.

The court heard on Tuesday that the man started raping his daughter when she was 13 years old and convinced his family that it was his biblical right.

His actions only came to light on February 2006 when his family discovered a letter detailing his plans to kill them before committing suicide.

They all ran away and alerted the police.

At the time the girl had already broken the water for her father's third child.

She gave birth to her first child, a girl, when she was 15 and had to drop out of school in Grade 8.

She never returned to school and in 2003 gave birth to a son.

A year later the daughter she gave birth to another girl.

The father had his own bedroom and would call either his wife or daughter when he wanted sex.

The Nelspruit regional court found him guilty on nine counts of rape, but found him not guilty on incest charges.

The victim and her three children, together with her mother and five siblings, are at present staying at a place of safety.
