2 officials fingeredin 'rip-off'

Allegations of corruption have emerged at the Lephalale municipality in Ellisras, Limpopo, after claims that the mayor, municipal manager and a law firm were in collusion to fleece the institution.

A dossier obtained by Sowetanshows that a legal firm, Mohale Incorporated of Mokopane, had since October 2006 to date charged the municipality legal fees amounting to R2,8 million

The fees are as a result of legal battles against the municipality's own employees.

It says the relationship between mayor Rosina Mogotlane, municipal manager Parks Sebatjane and the law firm dates back to when they were still linked to the Waterberg district municipality, where Mogotlane was council speaker, Sebatjane a municipal manager and the firm was handling their cases.

"This type of a relationship should be looked into with a serious concern since the intention is to rip the municipality of its service delivery budget," its reads.

It says in October 2006 the firm was paid R19046720 then R14002430 in November 2006 and R15514895 in December the same year.

It shows that in January 2007 the law firm was paid R118063 and between February and December 2007 the firm was paid R785165. Between January and December last year the firm got R97332840 and R53525117 between January and May this year.

Municipal spokesperson Victor Monyepao yesterday confirmed the amounts reflected in the dossier.
