While I do not deny the sad historic reality that rural areas and townships were severely ignored and underdeveloped under apartheid, this government would be as guilty as the apartheid regime if they listened to Malema.
He is either blind to or ignorant of post-apartheid population distribution . Blacks flocked to the suburb s to reverse residential segregation. The y were attracted to the suburbs because of better facilities and services . If they did not move there, only whites would still be living there and a basic tenet of our Constitution, nonracialism, would be a pipe dream.
The majority of blacks and some whites voted for the ANC because it truly embodies democracy, nondiscrimination, nonsexism and nonracialism. Some of us shudder at the thought of apartheid rearing its ugly head in a reincarnated form.
Another point Malema misses is that people in the suburbs pay exorbitant amounts for better facilities and services. If his bizarre wish is granted, then the government should brace itself for an upsurge in service delivery insurgence.
Should our beloved ANC consider its alliance partners' suggestions, it would undermine the giant strides already made.
