A BLOCK at the Ekulindeni municipal offices in Elukwatini, near Badplaas has been completely gutted by fire causing more than R100 000's worth of damages.

Police have opened a case of arson but no one has been arrested.

Police spokesperson Superintendent Abie Khoabane said a security guard noticed the fire at about 2.15am yesterday and called for help.

"By the time the fire brigade arrived one block had already been completely damaged and we are investigating a case of arson," Khoabane said.

Residents believe that some corrupt officials who were scared that certain documents would expose them might have burnt the building.

"We are aware of the corruption allegations at the municipality and how can we not suspect that the officials implicated are the ones responsible," resident Thembelinhle Nkosi said.
