Inspector Jimmy Maboko said the accident occurred on Leondale Road near the Rondebult bridge between the R103 and Van Wyk Road where firefighters were battling veld fires.
"It is not clear what caused the accident, but there are veld fires nearby and the area is full of smoke," Maboko said
