Zuma promises 500 000 jobs

President Jacob Zuma's announcement of creating 500 000 jobs in a year has left many youth in Limpopo smiling and optimistic about the future.

He announced in his State of the Nation address yesterday that the government's aim was to create no less than 500 000 jobs in a year.

The announcement, which was received with loud cheers mostly from the unemployed, was made at a time 20 000 people have lost their jobs due to the country's weakening economy. ANC Youth League president Julius Malema could not wait to express his wish on the announcement. He said half of the jobs should be given to unemployed young people.

He added that the youth played a major role in the advancement of democracy and freedom and that they should be given first priority in employment considerations.
