Ussa side gearing for Student Games

UNIVERSITY Sports South Africa women's soccer side start their World Student Games campaign against Brazil in Belgrade, Serbia, on June 30.

"We are in the group of death, but we are confident that we will represent South Africa with aplomb," said Ussa soccer chairperson Jerry Laka.

In their second game, South Africa come up against equally tough South Korea on July 2 before completing the first round campaign against Germany two days later.

Laka also confirmed the appointment of former Kaizer Chiefs defender Joseph "Skeshekeshe" Mkhonza as coach of the Serbia-bound team.

Mkhonza, father of Maritzburg United defender Siphiwe Mkhonza, will be assisted by Sello Mokoena, who deputised for Laka during the 2007 World Student Games in Thailand.

Pearl Mosoane has been unveiled as the new team manager, taking over from Queen Moloko who has since relocated from Cape Town to Mangaung in Bloemfontein due to work commitments.

Ussa are pleading with Banyana Banyana to allow them use rock solid defender Simphiwe Dludlu at the World Student Games.

At the same time, Banyana Banyana are off to Holland for a series of friendlies.

Meanwhile, Ussa are set to name the team to play in the World Student Games today .
