NICK AND MNGUNI CLASH

MZIMASE Mnguni and Nick Durandt's frosty relationship has reached ridiculous proportions ahead of Sunday's South African junior flyweight title fight.

MZIMASE Mnguni and Nick Durandt's frosty relationship has reached ridiculous proportions ahead of Sunday's South African junior flyweight title fight.

The fight is between the only champion remaining in Mnguni's stable, Mfundo Gwayana, who will defend his SA junior flyweight belt against Durandt's charge, Sizwe Sinyabi.

This fight will be presented by Mnguni's Eyethu Promotions at Orient Theatre in East London, Eastern Cape.

But Mnguni and Durandt, the two accomplished mentors, have taken the spotlight with their petty issues.

This was brought about by Mnguni's claim that Durandt poached his fighters, Hawk Makepula, Mhikiza Myekeni, Phumzile Matyhila, Simpiwe Vetyeka, Macbuti Sinyabi and Zolani Tete from his Eyethu Boxing gym in Mdantsane in East London.

But Durandt dismissed the claims, saying Mnguni's former fighters did not all come straight to him.

He saidothers first joined trainers like Rob MacLeod and Elias Tshabalala before finally landing at Durandt's Bree Street gym, downtown Johannesburg.

Recently Mnguni and Durandt were involved in the worst petty issue over R100.

Mnguni's office in Mdantsane booked Durandt and his crew to leave Johannesburg on Saturday for Sunday's fight.

Durandt could not leave on Saturday. Mnguni advised him that for him to change the booking, Durandt would have to refund him R100.

For the record Sizwe and his younger brother, Macbuti Sinyabi, the current SA junior featherweight holder, also defected from Mnguni to Durandt.

Apparently Mnguni was on cloud nine last Friday night after Durandt's fighter, Silence Mabuza, was stopped in the 12th-round by Colombian Yohnny Perez for the IBF bantamweight's top spot.

Two weeks ago Mnguni's "son", WBF flyweight holder Zolani Tete, defected to Durandt.
