THE Inkatha Freedom Party Women's Brigade has opted to mediate between the party hierachy and its youth wing over calls for changes within the leadership.
Fiery IFP Youth Brigade (IFPYB) leaders have called for party boss Mangosuthu Buthelezi and other senior leaders to step down after the party's dismal performance in the April elections.
IFP Women's Brigade chairperson Thembi Nzuza said yesterday that they could not stand by while the party was being "weakened by internal problems".
Nzuza said after the IFPYB's call for change, the IFPWB's KwaZulu-Natal provincial executive council met last Sunday and took a decision to intervene.
"What I can tell you is that we don't want to lose the senior leaders and at the same time we don't want to lose our youth. Our decision will be based on keeping the two happy," Nzuza said.
Nzuza said they would make their decision known to their leaders during an extended NEC meeting in Ulundi on June 12, 13 and 14.
"Our mediation role will ensure that we keep the party intact and united," she said.
Meanwhile, the seven suspended youth brigade leaders will know their fate during a disciplinary meeting today.
They are S'khumbuzo Khanyeza, Simphiwe Buthelezi, Bheki Mngwengwe, Thami Nzuza, Hlengiwe Mthiyane, Oscar Yengwa and Vaneshree Anamaley.
