Taifa Stars ready for All Whites

THE All Whites of New Zealand are in Tanzania for a friendly against the Taifa Stars in Dar es Salaam tomorrow as part of the build-up to the Confederations Cup.

THE All Whites of New Zealand are in Tanzania for a friendly against the Taifa Stars in Dar es Salaam tomorrow as part of the build-up to the Confederations Cup.

New Zealand are the first of the seven countries who have already arrived in South Africa for the "Festival of Champions" from June 14 to 28.

Led by coach Ricki Herbert, New Zealand landed in the country on Friday and left for Dar es Salaam on Monday to play against the Tanzanian national side.

Three key members of the team - captain Tim Brown, defender Tony Lochhead and goalie James Bannatyne - are down with a stomach bug.

The trio are unlikely to feature in the game against Taifa Stars. On Saturday, New Zealand will play the Zebras of Botswana in Gaborone.

On June 10, New Zealand play Spain at Super Stadium in Atteridgeville, Pretoria.

Chris Killen, who plies his trade in Scotland, and United States of America-based quartet of Andy Boyens, Duncan Oughton, Simon Elliott and Jarrod Smith will join the team in Tanzania today.

Frederick Mwakalebela, Tanzanian Football Federation's general secretary, said: "I'm confident we'll do well against New Zealand."

Taifa Stars are guided by Brazilian Marcio Maximo.
