The hawkers have presented the municipality with the total cost of goods confiscated during a raid. It amounted to more than R11000.
The spokesperson of the hawkers, Elvis Mathipa, said some of the hawkers whose goods were confiscated had died before they could get compensation.
He said they had presented their request to be compensated to Greater Tzaneen municipal manger Mabakane Mangena a long time ago but it "seems he was reluctant to authorise compensation".
Mangena said they had been promised money as compensation before the election but the process was delayed because one of the hawkers' leaders became ill and could not help to speed up the process.
Mathipa said some of the people involved were no longer hawkers but still had to be compensated for the goods they lost.
