GOVERNMENT officials said yesterday they were in close contact with the family of a lone South African aboard the Air France plane that went missing over the Atlantic Ocean on Monday during a flight from Brazil to France.

It is understood that Erich Heinne, who was born and grew up in Pretoria, was on board the flight.

The father of three worked for steel manufacturer Thyssenkrupp in Brazil, and held dual citizenship of Germany and South Africa.

Thyssenkrupp, however, said it was still waiting for the official name list to be released before issuing a statement. - Eyewitness News
