THE SA Pharmacy Council is planning to do away with levy fees charged by pharmacists in addition to the price of the medicines. Regulation will only come into effect next year.

THE SA Pharmacy Council is planning to do away with levy fees charged by pharmacists in addition to the price of the medicines. Regulation will only come into effect next year.

The decision to regulate the pharmacy industry came after a study showed that there was no pricing transparency to the benefit of consumers and pharmacists alike.

SAPC's Bada Pharasi said: "Publication of the fees will provide transparency."

He said it was expected that medical aids would adjust their packages to help consumers adapt to the new fee structures.- Zinhle Mapumulo
