Gumede lands role in soapie

AFTER an impressive performance in the drama series A Place Called Home, Thomas Gumede has landed another challenging role in Rhythm City.

AFTER an impressive performance in the drama series A Place Called Home, Thomas Gumede has landed another challenging role in Rhythm City.

The young actor will play a drug dealer in the e.tv soapie starting from tomorrow.

Gumede, a comedian and actor of some note, made himself a name in the SABC drama series, A Place Called Home.

In the series, he played Siphiwe, a young man who literally lives in a drain but is a genuinely talented writer, struggling on the margins of society.

He did justice to the role, so much that earlier this year he won the best actor award in the SA Film and Television Awards. Gumede made history by becoming the youngest recipient of this award. The show debuted on SABC1 in 2006 and last year the second series was flighted.

Gumede is also a well-known television presenter. He has co-hosted SABC1 youth talk show The Cypher , which premiered in 2007. He has also presented the reality comedy show, So You think You Are Funny on SABC1 early this year.

As a comedian he has performed at the 99% Zulu Comedy Show and the DSTV Comedy Festival. He has hosted his show at the Windybrow Theatre called Thomas Gumede Live on the Red Carpet .

He has done films such as The Deal, The List, Brothers In Arms, Friends In Needand Zero One One.
