Exams disrupts league

MID-YEAR examinations at the University of Limpopo could disrupt the smooth running of the Limpopo Softball Association's LimDev Super League.

MID-YEAR examinations at the University of Limpopo could disrupt the smooth running of the Limpopo Softball Association's LimDev Super League.

The institution has a softball team that competes in the Super League and the examinations will make it difficult for the team to honour its fixtures.

This will delay the completion of the programme, scheduled for June 20.

Frank Thobakgale, the university's softball team manager, confirmed yesterday that they had asked for their remaining matches to be postponed due to the exams.

"It will not be possible for us to honour the matches as scheduled, as almost all our players will be sitting for exams. The federation is not happy with our request and there is nothing we can do about the situation, which is beyond our control," Thobakgale said.

Mash Matsetela, LSA's president, said they were surprised by the request because the team agreed with the dates for the second round.

"We ratified the second-round fixtures and all the clubs were present and no one objected to the new dates, but now this," fumed Matsetela yesterday.

"Most of our players are students and this is why we fully engage their teams when we draft fixtures, to avoid matches clashing with the exams.

"We try to accommodate every team and if teams do not complain with the dates of the fixtures from the onset, we will have serious problems with them when they ask for postponements late in the season.

"We will check if the team complied with the rules for a postponement and we will take it from there."

He said if they found out that they had flouted the rules then the team will forfeit points after failing to honour Sunday's matches against Seleteng Giant Killers and Lebowakgomo Wildbeasts. Interestingly, the university team were the hosts of the matches.
