The DA has kicked the Freedom Front Plus out of the Cape Town multiparty government because the latter has got into bed with the ANC.

Yesterday, Cape Town mayor Dan Plato cited the fact that FF+ leader Pieter Mulder was appointed deputy minister of agriculture as the reason for the party's expulsion from the multiparty government.

"The DA is of the opinion that you cannot be in coalition with two political parties at the same time," he said.

Two weeks ago, the DA kicked the Universal Party out of the multiparty government and put its relationship with the ACDP under severe strain after passing a motion of no confidence in ACDP deputy mayor Grant Haskins.

The FF+ has described the move as an attempt by the DA to devour any opposition party that refuses to blindly support it as the new ruling party in the Western Cape.

FF+ chief whip Corne Mulder pointed out that the DA itself is in coalition with the ANC in the Western Cape towns of Oudtshoorn and Prince Albert.

Plato refused to comment on the matter.
