COURT AT THE SCENE OF KILLING

THE magistrate in the trial of Uriel Abrahamse, who shot and killed a four-year-old boy while chasing his son's alleged attacker last year, yesterday visited the scene of the killing.

THE magistrate in the trial of Uriel Abrahamse, who shot and killed a four-year-old boy while chasing his son's alleged attacker last year, yesterday visited the scene of the killing.

After the inspection in loco, magistrate Koos Pretorius said that when they arrived at the scene - near a creche - the noises of the children could be heard.

Pretorius said Abrahamse had indicated the spot about 20m from where he had fired at the suspect.

Abrahamse's lawyer told the court on Wednesday that his client did not see children and did not even know there was a creche.

Pretorius said the fence that the bullet was supposed to have ricocheted off from before killing Gwadiso Belang was L-shaped.

Abrahamse, an official at ANC headquarters, pleaded guilty to culpable homicide, but the state wants to prosecute him for murder.

The trail was postponed to July 21.
