FIVE robbers got more than they bargained for when police walked in on them while they were robbing a Bramley family at gunpoint, Johannesburg police said.

"They pistol-whipped a man visiting the family and demanded firearms from the family. They then helped themselves to two firearms from the safe and electrical appliances," said Inspector Moses Maphakela, picture, yesterday.

But before the men could take off with the loot on Tuesday night the police walked in on them after the domestic worker called them.

When the police entered the property a shootout ensued but no one was wounded.

Three of the robbers were arrested but two others fled with the loot. The men left behind bottles of wine and a BMW they had allegedly used to get to the house. - Sapa
