THE lessons for the Confederations Cup from the Indian Premier League have been more than we expected. First, there are obvious lessons about creating hype ahead of a major international sporting event.

THE lessons for the Confederations Cup from the Indian Premier League have been more than we expected. First, there are obvious lessons about creating hype ahead of a major international sporting event.

The dangerously overcrowded Wanderers Stadium on Sunday showed the lengths fans would go to to watch their favourite players. With that comes a market that crooks are more than happy to exploit.

The debacle also showed that the crooked are getting more sophisticated. Although thousands more than the expected 25000 were at the stadium, Cricket SA only recovered 327 fraudulent tickets. It begs the question as to where the rest of the tickets came from.

We hope the sporting authorities will clamp down and arrest these bandits soon. Their willingness to risk human life for a quick buck is just not cricket.
