Grade 9 learners are about to write externally set mid-year exams. This can be a stressful time for any pupil.

Sowetan has compiled a list of tips on how to study effectively and minimise stress levels.

lDraw up a study schedule. A coordinated timetable will help to manage available time in advance thus reducing stress during exams. It is important to allocate sufficient time for sleep and after-school activities;

lDo not leave everything for the last minute, even if you do work best under pressure. You can still prepare in advance by drawing up study notes;

lFind a study method that suits you, such as mind-maps or flash-cards. Using abbreviations or symbols for commonly used words can also help;

lFind the perfect study environment. Sufficient space is needed for books and equipment. If there is a lot of background noise in your house, also try and play some soft music;

lPay attention in class. Do not rely on learning everything on your own after school; and

lDrink lots and lots of WATER.
