THE CITY of Johannesburg is not only happy that renovations to Confederations Cup venues are complete, but that the refurbishment of Soccer City is also nearing completion.

Mayor Amos Masondo said they were looking forward to a successful Confederations Cup.

Ellis Park Stadium in Doornfontein will be the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies on June 14 and 28 .

Masondo said they have completed the upgrading of training venues for the two competitions, such as Orlando, Dobsonville and Rand stadiums.

"Our showpiece venue of Soccer City is nearly 92 percent complete and we expect completion by August 2009," he said.

The city has budgeted R110million for World Cup operations plus R35million for fan parks and public viewing sites.
