A MEMBER of Cope was killed at the ANC-dominated Glebelands hostel in Umlazi, south of Durban, at the weekend.

Bukekile Mathe, 29, was returning to his room when he was attacked.

He was taken to hospital but died despite attempts to resuscitate him.

Phillip Mhlongo, Cope's provincial secretary, has called on the police to arrest the criminals who are terrorising his party members at the hostel.

"In Glebelands, attacks are unleashed against our members and the police have had limited success in making arrests," said Mhlongo, who demanded political intervention.

"The police have not acted no political mandate has been given to them.

"And MEC for community safety Bheki Cele has been quiet about the situation in that hostel."

Police spokesperson Director Phindile Radebe confirmed that police are investigating a case of murder.
