COSATU in Limpopo has a new leader.

The union elected a new leadership during a two-day conference held at Bolivia Lodge outside Polokwane at the weekend.

The organisation was restored back to life after Ronny Moroatshehla, pictured, former Sadtu and Cosatu regional leader, was elected chairperson.

The union has had a lean staff after chairperson Mabilu Mokwalakwala left the union in the lurch to join Cope. Provincial secretary Jan Tsiane then resigned to join the Limpopo legislature.

Tsiane's move to the legislature was seen by many as appreciation by the ANC for having rallied behind Mathale's candidature for premier and chairperson prior to the Venda conference and the general elections.

The conference was attended by Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi, who called on affiliates to guard the gains of the ANC Polokwane national conference.

Also in attendance were ANC and SACP big shots Cassel Mathale, Namane Masemola, Joe Maswanganyi, Machike Thobejane and Soviet Lekganyane.

Those elected with Moroatshehla to the provincial structure are deputy chairperson Essop Mokgonyane, secretary Dan Sebabi and treasurer Kate Matlou.
