The national disaster centre said yesterday, as temperatures soared over the past three decades that natural and epidemic diseases have increased.

This trend will worsen in the future said the National Disaster Institute's climate-change report. "Mozambique's exposure to the risk of natural disaster will significantly rise over the next 20 years and beyond, as a result of climate change," the study warns.

The report, funded by the UN and Denmark, warns that Mozambique will continue to suffer if the world does "too little, too late" to climate change.

The study says the country's coast could shift 500metres inland due to erosion, given that the population is concentrated on the coast. - Sapa-AFP
