Two members of the SA Social Security Agency in Limpopo's Polokwane office were arrested for alleged fraud involving more than R100000.

Takalane Makhado, 28, and Joel Makwela, 39, were arrested after they were connected with the irregular payment of social grants to their relatives. Makwela was arrested with his wife, Salphina, 31.

Police spokesperson Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba said Makwela, of Mookgophong, had allegedly defrauded the department of about R76610.

"He had allegedly fraudulently registered his wife for a disability grant though she was not disabled," Ramatseba said.

The couple appeared in the Polokwane magistrate's court on Friday and were granted bail of R1000 and R500, respectively.

Meanwhile, Makhado, of Mphephu, was also arrested the same day for allegedly collecting child support grants for his two children who did not qualify.

Makhado appeared in the Dzanani magistrate's court for defrauding the agency of R26 000. He is out on R1000 bail.
