Seven ministers in the public service are racing against time to avert a national strike by unions demanding more pay.

The ministers of health, education, justice, police, finance, social services and correctional services have all been warned by Cosatu in a scathing letter to "address the looming crisis" in the public service.

Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi said on Saturday that he would meet the ministers on Wednesday to discuss salary increments and effecting of the occupation specific dispensations. - Getrude Makhafola
