Now it's time to honour them and reconnect them with their die-hard fans at home.
Ladysmith Black Mambazo will give one of those rare performances at the Carnival City Hotel in Brakpan on May 30.
The annual event goes out of its way not only to honour but to celebrate local music icons who make waves internationally.
So this is an opportunity to showcase the group's talent and reconnect culturally inclined individuals with their roots while also showing what has made them the number-one traditional group on the international music circuit.
A joint venture between Drakensberg Promotions and Carnival City Casino and Entertainment World, the concert is affectionately referred to as Halala Mambazo Amnyama Halala. The show is about kudos for the KwaZulu-Natal outfit for putting our culture on the map.
The Carnival City Celebration Concert 2009 also features Lucky Dube's Band and Freshlyground. Doors open at 6.30pm and the show starts at 7.30pm. Get your tickets from Computicket and Shoprite Checkers.
