Carara Kicks's failure to gain automatic promotion to the Absa Premiership after losing to Jomo Cosmos a fortnight ago has not dampened their spirits going into the last round of promotion playoffs.
This was the view of Kicks's top goal scorer Kingston Nkhatha yesterday ahead of their crunch match against Mpumalanga Black Aces on Sunday.
They host Aces in the first leg of the playoffs at Griffons Rugby Stadium, with kickoff at 3pm.
"Our preparations went accordingly and we are ready for Aces at home. It's important for us to win at home as this will make our job easy in the second leg away," said Nkhatha, who is likely to be teamed up with Akeem Olubambiro up front.
Aces midfielder Lindokuhle Mbatha said they had sought divine intervention.
"We have been holding prayers throughout this week, asking God to help us succeed in the playoffs. We are also pleading with the people of Mpumalanga to have us in their prayers."
Sunday's other playoff match pits FC Cape Town against Thanda Royal Zulu at SJ Smith Stadium in Durban, also at 3pm. The playoffs is a way back to the Premiership for TRZ just weeks after they were relegated.
"We are ready for Thanda Royal Zulu. We respect them, but are not afraid of them," warned FC Cape Town mentor Johnny Ferreira yesterday.
TRZ officials and players were not available for comment . The second-leg matches will be played on Thursday, May 28 and the two-legged final is scheduled for June 2 and 6.
