Metrobus driver Sakie Ledwaba says he should be paid "according to my years of service".
The father of two from Kibler Park, southern Johannesburg, has been working for Metrobus for the past eight years. He transports commuters from Gandhi Square to northern Johannesburg from midday to 8pm.
To make extra cash he sometimes stands in for other drivers who might have fallen sick or on leave.
Metrobus staff aligned to the South African Municipal Workers Union have been on strike for the past three weeks over salary progressions.
Metrobus has said it does not have money to meet Samwu's demands.
"My salary band level has to improve because I am a breadwinner and cannot make ends meet on this salary," Ledwaba said.
He said he earned about R7000 a month before deductions.
He also sends R500 a month to his son who lives in Limpopo and budgets for petrol and the monthly utility bill.
He and his wife put their salaries together to buy monthly groceries.
"At the end of all this I am left with nothing," Ledwaba said.
