amajita recall kermit
Holland-based striker Kermit Erasmus has been recalled to Amajita for the tour of Ghana and Uruguay, in a squad that includes three new recruits.
The new faces in coach Serame "Rhee" Letsoaka's squad are Darren Keet, Sibusiso Khumalo and Denis Kaibe.
Keet was recruited from Bidvest Wits, Khumalo from Moroka Swallows and Kaibe from Carel De Wit School in Vereeniging.
The tour forms part of South Africa's preparations for the World Youth Championships in Egypt in October.
The selected team will assemble on Sunday to prepare for the tour, Letsoaka said yesterday.
Initially, Amajita were supposed to play the first game in Banjul, Gambia, but were forced to go to Ghana due to a lack of flights.
"The report I have received from the team manager [Winston Marumo] is that they were not able to get a flight to Banjul for the team," explained Letsoaka.
This could be a blessing in disguise because Ghana have also qualified for the World Youth Championships after winning the African title in Rwanda in March.
In that tournament, Ghana beat South Africa 4-3 in the semifinals.
For Erasmus, it will be his first appearance in a South African team since joining Feyernoord last June from SuperSport United.
Letsoaka had included him in the team to represent South Africa in Rwanda but his club refused to release him despite calls from world soccer governing body Fifa.
"Kermit will be on tour to Ghana and Uruguay with us," said Letsoaka, who will also be part of the Bafana Bafana technical team for the Confederations Cup.
