A teenage girl was rescued by a call she made to her parents while in the hands of suspected child traffickers at a house in Nzhelele.

The girl, who was reported missing for a week, was thrown out of the house by the alleged traffickers because of the phone call.

The 14-year-old girl was abducted after she boarded a taxi to Thohoyandou but ended up in the hands of the traffickers last month after she was drugged .

Tshilidzi Masikhwa, manager of Access to Justice at the Thohoyandou Victim Empowerment Programme, said yesterday that the girl told social workers during counselling that she was abducted and drugged on the taxi.

"The girl said she was left in the locked house with other girls," Masikhwa said.

He said the girl told them that her captors threw her out of the house when she was caught talking on her cellphone.
