Music fans will have a ball at the Teatro in Montecasino when some of our most popular musicians take to the stage.

Called Hugh Masekela and Friends, the concert on June 26 and 27 will feature Bra Hugh, Thandiswa Mazwai, Tsepo Tsola and Tsepo Mngoma.

Though promoted as a Bra Hugh concert, this will not diminish the contribution of sensational multi-award winning singer, songwriter and recording artist Mazwai, long-time friend, ex Sankomota leader and Gospel soloist 'Tsepo The Village Pope' Tshola and guest violinist Tsepo Mngoma plus a seven-member choir.

Now entering his seventh decade, Masekela has played trumpet and flugelhorn with Kippie Moeketsi, Paul Simon, Fela Kuti, The Crusaders, Bob Marley and Miriam Makeba.

He has played on stages from the Hollywood Bowl to the Brixton Academy, from Carnegie Hall to the Royal Albert Hall, the Village Gate and Moretele Park, from the Montreux Jazz Festival to the Cape Town International Jazz Festival and innumerable points in between.

These concerts will be a retrospective of his illustrious 50-year career and a celebration of his 70th birthday. The repertoire will include some of Bra Hugh's most popular songs from more than 40 recorded albums, his own personal favourites, and material from his newly released CD, Phola.
