Women's rights groups have interpreted Helen Zille's choice of an all-male cabinet as a vote of no confidence in women.

Gender Links executive director Colleen Lowe Morna said: "I'm appalled that we are stepping back into the era where white males think on behalf of black females.

"Issues that should be on Zille's agenda are HIV-Aids and violence against women."

Lisa Vetten, spokesperson for Tshwaranang, Legal Advocacy Centre to End Violence Against Women, said: "A concern of mine is that Zille chose to attack Jacob Zuma when asked about her all-male cabinet."
