Pistorius has to pick up the pace

World-class athlete Oscar Pistorius left for Europe at the weekend for a series of events for the disabled, which will see him compete in Manchester on Saturday, before ending up in Barcelona at the end of July.

It is quite a schedule, from Manchester he goes to Barcelona (Spain), Torino (Italy), Thessaloniki (Greece), Milan (Italy), Oslo (Norway), Rome (Italy), Lignano (Italy), Luzern (Switzerland) and Paris (France) before finally ending up back in Barcelona.

"It's a tough schedule, but it's all part of the job," said the athlete, rather matter-of-factly.

"I'm feeling good, I've recovered well from my accident and, aside from the events I'll be taking part in, I'm looking forward to doing a bit of sight-seeing and, simply, just enjoying myself."

He has been a busy man of late, following the release of his forthcoming book Blade Runner. He insists it is "just the beginning" as far as his career is concerned.

"It's quite weird you know," said Pistorius when asked about his 186-page book, "I've not really achieved an awful lot, I'm just 22 years old, yet I've just written a book.

"I said as much to the publishers when they approached me, but they wanted a story about my life thus far, not my career, and I found it really enjoyable." - Sapa
