Given that football is the ultimate national pastime, the Safa presidency is an extremely powerful position.

Lobbying has already started and we expect that, going forward, all sorts of tricks and underhand tactics might be used to gain favour. Things could turn ugly.

That is why it is important that all candidates set terms of engagement and live by them.

Fair play should not be confined to the pitch.
